Fostering Long and Happy Lives with Pet Wellness Care

Who doesn’t want to have as many playtimes and cuddle sessions as possible with their pets? The healthier they are, the more time you can spend in each other’s company. At Back Bay Veterinary Clinic, we’re genuinely passionate about pet wellness care—the branch of medicine involving physical exams and illness prevention for animals of all ages. This is where we start you and your pet off on the right foot, and check in regularly to see that you’re staying on the right path.

What Wellness Care Entails

We sit down with pet parents daily to discuss the needs of their canine and/or feline family members. We're also here to answer all your questions and examine your pet from every angle so we can truly understand their health.

A typical pet wellness care visit covers routine services that every companion animal should have in their health plan:

  • Annual or semi-annual exams to monitor your pet’s condition
  • Screening for heartworm disease, intestinal parasites, giardia, and other diseases
  • Providing flea, tick and heartworm preventatives
  • Providing core vaccines for your pet and discussing the lifestyle vaccines they might need sooner or later in life
  • Offering suggestions for a healthy, balanced diet and proper exercise
  • Explaining dental cleanings and how to improve and maintain your pet’s oral health

Staying in Tune with Changes in Your Pet’s Lifestyle

From one year to the next, your pet’s health needs are going to change. By recommending that they receive annual wellness exams, we can stay in tune with these changes. No matter how young or old, they will remain protected from disease and enjoy the best quality of life possible.

Our Senior Preventive Care Package

As they age, your pet's health risks increase, making semi-annual exams an essential part of their care. When we can identify a disease or other problem before it causes clinical signs, your pet's treatment will be much more successful. Our senior preventive work-up breaks down all of the services we recommend for their needs. This complete screening diagnostic is suggested for seemingly healthy pets over 7 years old, the age at which "invisible" health changes start taking place within the body.

  • Complete lab work including:
    • Full body function
    • Thyroid level
    • Urinalysis
    • Screening tick test
    • Intestinal parasite testing
    • Chest X-rays to evaluate the heart, lungs, and thoracic cavity
  • Screening for cancer, kidney disease, heartworm disease, dental disease, arthritis, and much more
  • Blood pressure check
  • Radiographic review by a veterinary radiologist
